Here's my new, super-basic budget system for the new year. I don't need all those fancy apps; I just need to make sure I'm not spending too much on a certain thing. Besides, this is prettier, more familiar, and cheaper (considering I already own the app).
After Jumsoft gave me the virtual finger, I tried Cha-Ching again. It's still got the same infuriating bugs, but in a twinkly new interface! If, after this many interface overhauls, they still don't have a "New Transaction" command, I don't think we can get along.
So my four-month budget-keeping experiment is over. I'm going to stop recording all of my income and transfers. I'm going to keep a simple two-column OmniOutliner file. I'll make a group for each month and a subgroup for each budget, and make sure none of them get too negative. Whatever is left, I'll put in my savings account. I think that's the best I can hope for anymore.
A while back I posted about Jumsoft Money and how great it is, especially compared to the still-buggy Cha-Ching. While I was still in the Money trial period, I wrote a couple of friendly support e-mails to Jumsoft, offering some feedback and asking for some help with features that didn't seem to work exactly right. By the time my trial was over, two weeks later, I still hadn't heard back. I wrote in again, asking if my messages had been received at all. That was several weeks ago, and still nothing has come back to me.
